What you learn:
You learn how to read a set of structural construction documents (CDs). Many people go to college, learn how to do structural calculations but have never seen a set of structural blueprints. Many people work in the field and their boss is the only one who knows how to understand a set of structural construction documents. This course, taught by a licensed engineer, will walk you through a set of structural CDs and explain the relationships between all of the drawings.
Prerequisite: Blueprint 1. All students are expected to have a working
ability to read in English and an interest in learning how a set of construction structural drawings relate to one another.
Course Description: The class meets in two, two-hour sessions. One session is dedicated to a commercial project and the other to a residential project. The class is taught by a licensed engineer. We begin with a set of structural drawings for a commercial project, learn the relationship between the project information sheet, the foundation plan, the framing plans, the roof plan and details. This is a hands-on
class. Our class sizes have a maximum of eight people. The course will utilize lectures, hands-on demonstrations and
exercises to familiarize participants with blueprint reading of structural construction documents. At the conclusion of the course, students
will be able to make the connections and references between multiple
structural construction documents contained in a set of blueprint drawings.
Course Projects: Reviewing the structural drawings for a commercial project and a residential project.
Grading: Class participants will receive
a grade for their contributions to the class. There will be quizzes
and tests to ensure that class participants fully understand the
topics being presented.
Open labs: Open labs are available
for students to review PDFs of class handouts and to view the online videos. There is an additional cost for
using open labs. Please contact us to receive that information.
